The independent Danish bottler is producing the second edition of 1423 SBS The Beast here, using a new 1993 vintage from the Caroni distillery. The latter, founded in 1918 and known for its “heavy rums”, ceased production in 2000.
This is a selection from a single cask, from which exactly 222 bottles were produced.
This molasses rum from Trinidad and Tobago was column distilled and then matured in old bourbon barrels. It was not until 28 years later, in October 2021, that bottling was carried out in Denmark at natural strength and without chill filtration.
Nose : First chemical notes of dissolvant, then changing to subtle scents of dried dates, plums and gingerbread.
Taste : Strong aromas of charcoal and rubber, followed by spicy notes and a subtle touch of salt. Intense and long finish.
