Domain information

Domaine Dupont-Fahn

Michel Dupont lives near the walled hamlet of Clos des Toisières. This is located in the municipality of Monthélie, near Meursault, where he owns a small but renowned wine estate. The wines of Domaine Dupont-Fahn are exuberant. They have an almost sultry perfume, an exotic taste and an extreme ripeness. He always harvests very late and does not shy away from a certain ‘botrytis’, because this breaks down the acids in the grape and adds some fatness. By harvesting late, the yield is always low. Dupont clearly chooses wines that should be drunk young.

Regional information

Burgundy

Burgundy is the famous wine region in the eastern part of France that extends roughly two hundred kilometers south from Dijon to Lyon. The region is divided into a number of sub-regions, each with its own character. White wines are mostly made from chardonnay and red wines from pinot noir. The northernmost part is Chablis, known for its dry, mineral and fresh white wines. This special sub-area lies northwest of Dijon, near the city of Auxerre. Just south of Dijon begins the most evocative area, the Côte d’Or. This area is generally divided into the Côte de Nuits, the area that runs to just above the town of Beaune, and the Côte de Beaune, the area south of Beaune. The great white and red Burgundy wines almost all come from the Côte d’Or. South of the Côte de Beaune we find the Côte Chalonnaise and even further south the Mâconnais, mainly known for its white wines. Even further south lies the Beaujolais, which falls under Burgundy, but has a separate status as a wine region. The grape that plays the leading role here is the Gamay, from which light and fruity red wines are made.
