This is a single malt whisky that has matured for no less than 5 decades; this took place for the vast majority of the total maturation period on ex-bourbon casks, after which a finish on an ex-port cask (cask 1) was applied. Seductive and extremely complex in character; ginger, various layers of herbs, citrus zest and apple stand out. Cherries, ripe plums, blueberries and hints of tropical fruit complement this further in the nose. At the first sip, a warming mix of citrus and herbs stands out. The presence of coffee tones, toffee apple, port influences and hints of almonds give it more body. The finish of the Fettercairn 50 years combines caramel with liquorice.
