This is a very special bottling for Maclean and Bruce which incorporates two first-fill sherry butts, one peated and one unpeated. Bottled at 58% ABV, the marriage of these two casks really leans into the funky, savoury, saline aspects of Ardnamurchan distillate.
Smoked fish, raclette cheese, salt and balsamic vinegar crisps, slate, whittled wood, pipe tobacco… when tasting this, we remarked that the whisky tastes like you’re in the dark-wood-panelled smoking car of train trips of olden days.
There’s dark fruit too, but it takes a back seat here. What a powerful and unique dram!
