The rusk bakers worked long days and because of this, disaster often struck and large parts of the Wormer burned down. The striking of the clock of the rusk tower signaled the time of lighting and extinguishing the ovens, so that no more baking took place. The monumental tower was leading for Wormer and unique in the world. Unfortunately, the original tower was demolished at the end of the 19th century and rebuilt in its former glory in 2018.
