Distilled in 1991 and aged entirely in ex-bourbon casks, this is a rare limited edition of mature Cardhu single malt at natural cask sstrength. It is a beautifully structured whisky; at once delicate and feminine on the nose yet assured, robust and surprisingly spicy to taste. Luscious, indulgent notes of vanilla are balanced on the palate by aromatic and refined tannins. This generous spirit seems to flow from that of the two strong, pioneering women who in turn co-founded and built up the Cardhu distillery. Two hundred years ago, Helen Cumming would selflessly hoist a flag to warn other distillers nearby of the arrival of revenue officers. Later, Elizabeth Cumming's drive enabled her to build a new, much larger distillery. She was also well known for her acts of kindness and for her "hospitable home". On retiring, Elizabeth entrusted her cherished Cardhu to John Walker & Sons. Their first distillery, it has become the spiritual home of Johnnie Walker, while its own generous spirit echoes the character of the Cummings of Cardhu.
