CLIMATE & TERROIR: The climate Bougros is located in the west
tip of the Grands Crus area of Chablis, at varying heights
from 130-170m. The vineyard is oriented south and the soils
consist mainly of marl and clay.
VINIFICATION: 50% of the grapes are fermented in French oak
barrels with an average age of 6 years, the remaining 50% in stainless steel
tanks. The wine matures for 14 to 15 months, of which 50-60% 5 to 6
months in oak. The rest of the maturation takes place in stainless steel.
GRAPES: chardonnay
ALCOHOL PERCENTAGE: 13.00%
SMELL & TASTE: Very rich wine with intense minerality. Full and
round, yet firm in the mouth. Think of citrus aromas,
blossom and green apple.
SERVING SUGGESTION: Fantastic wine with fish dishes,
shellfish and other seafood: grilled or in a
creamy sauce. Also poultry or grilled white meats
combine nicely with this wine. Serve this wine at 12-14°C.
FACT: Bougros probably owes its name to the Latin
word 'bucca', which is the Old French word 'bouque' (constriction)
produced. This may refer to the nearby Serein River,
which narrows at the foot of the hill.
