It is one of the most famous wineries in Bordeaux, if not in the world: Château Mouton-Rothschild. The house has a rich history that dates back to 1853 when Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild purchased Château Brane-Mouton. From that moment on, the Château in the heart of the Médoc bears the name 'Château Mouton Rothschild'.

The Château is passed on from generation to generation. Ultimately, it was Baron Philippe de Rothschild who decided in 1924 to stop selling the wine barrels to so-called 'négociants'. From that moment on, the wine is bottled on the domain. In 1973, after a long struggle and very exceptionally, Château Mouton-Rothschild was still included as Premier Cru Classé in the 1855 classification. And rightly so, if you ask us.

Today, Mouton-Rothschild – in addition to their name and high quality wine – is known for the striking labels that are designed every year in collaboration with a different famous artist. This phenomenon has its origins in 1945, when the end of the Second World War was celebrated with a special label. Designed by artist Philippe Julian, this first specially designed label in 1945 featured the large letter V, which symbolized 'Victoire' (victory).

The domain has been owned by the third generation of Rothschilds since 2014. In addition to the large Cuvée 'Château Mouton Rothschild', the house also makes a second wine 'Le petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild' and a white wine: 'Aile d'Argent'. The wines are known for being very rich and full, with intense fruitiness, ripe tannins and aromas such as coffee, cocoa and tobacco due to the use of 100% new oak barrels. Each and every one of them is a rare pearl!
