Background information:
The Tuscan Winery Melini was founded in 1705 by the Florentine Melini family and is located in Gaggiano at 300 meters above sea level in the hills of Chianti Classico. Melini is one of the most prestigious and important wineries in the Chianti area with a total of 163 hectares in its possession, including the vineyards Selvanella, Granaio and Terra Rossa. Winemaker is Alessandro Zanette.
Granaio is a real Chianti village, the first information of which dates back to the end of the 16th century, when it appears in a Florentine document ‘Piante di popoli estrade’ (maps of peoples and streets). Its origins are certainly older, as it functioned as a defensive tower. Due to its expansion, the village of Granaio has always been the attraction for the surrounding estates.
Only Chianti wines that come from the classic, original Chianti area within Tuscany may be called Chianti Classico and have the highest Italian qualification DOCG. The Chianti Classico can often be recognized by the logo with the image of a black rooster, the Gallo Nero.
