Glentauchers was founded in 1897 at Tauchers Farm by William Lowrie and James Buchanan. It was set up to supply malt whiskies for blending which resulted in James Buchanan making his famous ‘Black and White’ blend. It is situated near a supply of clear soft water coming from the Hill of Towie into the River Isla. Close by is Packhorse Bridge with Guan’s Pot where women were thrown in to test if they were witches or not. If they floated they would be found guilty and burnt. If they didn’t they were found innocent and left to drown.
