In 1968, in complete secrecy, he invented the Hooghoudt Jonge Dubbele Graanjenever which unleashed a revolution in the Jenever category and in 1973 with the Kalmoes herbal bitters. Hero Jan junior was the first spirit company to appear on TV with a TV commercial for Jonge Dubbele Graanjenever in 1968. This was also the major breakthrough of a regional Groningen company to national fame. Hooghoudt celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1988. Hero Jan junior opened the new distillery and bottling plant. The company moved from the center of Groningen to the outskirts of the city. Hooghoudt became 'By Royal Decree' and was given his own street: Hooghoudtstraat 1.
This Hooghoudt Aged 25 years is inspired by his personal achievements. To create it, our master distiller unsealed the 25 year old ex-Oloroso cask #563. He then enriched the full flavors of the malt wine aged on Oloroso with a wonderfully rich infusion of distilled calamus root, orris root, sandalwood, wormwood and juniper berry. The unmistakable warmth and earthy notes blend effortlessly with the fresh spicy finish.
Our Hooghoudt Aged 25 years celebrates the third of only five very exceptional casks filled at the beginning of the 21st century. Like its 23 and 24 year old predecessor, this Aged 25 brings together 5 generations and more than 135 years of Hooghoudt distillation craftsmanship and unparalleled art in botanical blending.
