This is a blended malt named after Nikka's founder Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky. He is the first Japanese who mastered whisky-making in Scotland and brought this expertise back to Japan. While being a disciplined craftman, Masataka was also a person of curiosity and open-mindedness.
The whisky has been created inspired by his personality to showcase an exquisite balance between elegant softness and deep complexity.
Colour: Old gold.
Nose: Fruity, marked by citrus notes with orange but also a fatter side with the juicy pear. Complex and expressive, the nose evolves and reveals slightly herbaceous notes with a hint of peat and a slight bitterness as it goes from orange to grapefruit.
Palate: Round and full of delicacy. Cereal aromas alongside sweet spice with an ounce of cardamom. At the same time, candied fruit notes appear with a more assertive character giving depth and length.
Finish: In line with the palate, a slight bitterness arrives with peat in all discretion which tends almost to a full-bodied dark chocolate.
