Barón de Ley was founded in 1985 by a team of experienced
wine professionals from Rioja who wanted to set up a new type of winery, with a
completely new approach for the region. The former monastery with 90 hectares
of land offered them the opportunity to make wines from grapes from their own vineyards.
Special, because in Rioja most vineyards are still in the hands of
grape growers who sell their grapes to the wineries. Barón de Ley is
famous for its Reserva wines: powerful, concentrated and complex, but
also fruit-dominated and therefore attractive to a wide group of
wine drinkers. With native grapes such as garnacha, graciano, maturana and
garnacha blanca in addition to tempranillo, Barón de Ley remains true to its roots, but
expands the possibilities for making new, distinctive wines.
The wines of Barón de Ley are 100% Rioja, but each one has a
contemporary character.
