Trimbach is famous for the legendary Clos St. Hune. The Cuvée Frédéric Emile follows at a modest distance. Together, these two wines are seen as the king and queen of the domain. Only in exceptional top years is this wine made from 30-year-old Riesling vines planted in Grand Cru vineyards on a Muschelkalk soil. Ideal for this grape. 2008 is seen as the best harvest year for Alsace since 1990 and perhaps the best of the century!
Maison Trimbach
France
The Trimbach family has been producing wines in Alsace for almost four centuries and for twelve generations. They are a household name in the region and actually also throughout the wine world. The winery of Maison Trimbach is located in Ribeauvillé, but this producer also has vineyards in Hunawihr, Bergheim, Rorschwihr, Riquewihr and Mittelwihr. The villages sound German, but of course we are in France. Alsace has a unique microclimate with exceptionally many hours of sunshine thanks to the Vosges. This is one of the reasons why Trimbach wines are among the most sought-after in the world. In particular the mythical Clos Ste Hune, a Grand Cru vineyard of 1.67 hectares, which produces only a few thousand bottles of top Riesling annually.
