CLIMATE & TERROIR: The Biancavilla vineyard is located on the
southwestern flank of Etna at an altitude of 700 to 800 metres. Here
they benefit from the cool mountain air and sometimes cold wind that
blows there. The soil contains solidified lava and small round pebbles.
VINIFICATION: The grapes are fermented partly in oak barrels and partly
in concrete tanks. The maturation of 24 months also takes
place in oak and concrete.
GRAPES: nerello mascalese, nerello cappuccio
ALCOHOL PERCENTAGE: 14.50%
NOIS & TASTE: An intriguing nose of smoky volcanic ash
and hints of Mediterranean scrub are followed by notes
of myrtle, blackberry, mulberry and wild juniper. Beautiful freshness and
minerality with silky, elegant tannins. SERVING SUGGESTION: Perfect with all kinds of dishes from the Italian and especially Sicilian cuisine, not too heavy meat dishes and
rich vegetarian dishes. Also delicious with ripe hard (sheep) cheeses!
FACT: Idda is the Sicilian word for 'she' and refers to the
Etna, called Idda by the locals with awe.
