The Story
Naltahua is a town in “Isla de Maipo” known for its river-fed agriculture and its postcard-perfect sunsets as the sun disappears below the horizon behind the hills. Sarmientos pays homage to the vines that support the bunches of grapes – healthy and vigorous vines – and to the landscapes and nature. These are the true fruits of this fertile landscape.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested and processed in the cellar, ready to start fermentation. This takes place in stainless steel tanks at a temperature between 24°C and 28°C. The must is pumped over daily, but this is of course less frequent as fermentation progresses. Once fermentation is complete, 100% of the wine is aged in contact with oak.
Tasting notes
Colour: Ruby red
Smell: Fresh notes of ripe pear, red fruit, spicy and peppery tones. Together they form the typical classic taste of a Merlot. Combine this with a soft scent of toasted wood and you have the beautifully balanced scent of the Sarmientos de Tarapacá Merlot.
Serving temperature: 14 °C.
Taste: Medium body with smooth, rounded tannins that lead to a long and pleasant aftertaste.
Wine food combination
The Sarmientos de Tarapacá Merlot is a versatile wine that combines well with fatty fish such as salmon and tuna, poultry or even red meat. The wine is also delicious with grilled vegetables (pumpkin, sweet potato, onion, pepper, eggplant, tomato, mushrooms etc.).
