The Estates South Ridge Syrah is sourced from chalky, gravelly soils at two vineyards in the cooler Adelaide District of Paso Robles, which provide fresh blackberry flavors and aromatic white pepper. Grapes from the warmer Paso Robles Estrella district provide black cherry and black tea leaf flavors. The high-altitude Beck Vineyard in the Creston sub-AVA (American Viticultural Area) provides an exceptionally dark color, intense concentration, and dark fruit notes. Part of the blend is fermented in stainless steel tanks, along with a small percentage of viognier, providing some floral notes.
The Grenache grapes provide a soft texture and candied strawberry aromas. The addition of a small amount of mourvèdre enhances the peppery flavors of syrah (also known as shiraz). After 12 months in French oak barrels, this produces a spicy and juicy wine with a creamy texture that combines wonderfully with roasted meats such as lamb or game.
