CLIMATE & TERROIR: A climate with warm summers and cold
winters. The terroir has elements of weathered granite and
slate.
VINIFICATION: After the intensive soaking period, the fermentation
continues. When approximately 8% has been reached, the process is stopped by
adding wine alcohol and the juice can mature for a period of
(on average) 40 years in wood.
GRAPES: touriga francesa, tinta roriz, touriga nacional
ALCOHOL PERCENTAGE: 20.00%
NOISE & TASTE: Light brown-orange and silky soft with candied fruit,
hazelnut, chocolate and spices. Elegant and complex with an
endless and intense aftertaste.
SERVING SUGGESTION: Serve with old cheeses; also great with
almonds or walnuts and foie gras.
FACT: Long maturation in barrels softens a strong wine. The full
ruby red gives way to a brown glow. It is precisely this amber
or tan colouring that gives Tawny port its name. A Tawny actually starts its life as Ruby.
